Project Management

Project management is a lengthy process that involves planning, estimating, co-coordinating, executing and finally working towards the completion of the project. A person who handles the project is known as the project manager. He or she is responsible to see the project through its completion. In the process, they can use several tools like critical path analysis, work breakdown structure, value management and so on. Moreover, the manager also needs to look into quality control and maintain set standards.  He handles different teams that are his support system. It is a team effort and the synergy of the team helps in achieving success.

Various factors go into construction project management. We throw light on some of these factors.

  • Construction leads - This is the first step towards a successful project. Identifying the leads and pitching the right clients.
  • Estimating cost - Once you manage to identify a good lead, it is time to estimate the total cost. Various cost valuation techniques can be used to estimate a ballpark figure. Costs should include the operations cost, material cost, labor cost, cost of staff, construction cost, administration cost, overhead costs and so on.
  • Construction bids - After estimating the overall cost, the next step of project management for a project manager is to forward a construction bid. The bid will decide if your company will get the project or not.
  • Structural and architectural design - If the bid is approved then the manager starts working with the architectural team to present the floor plan.
  • Utilities and building interiors - The next step is to provide specifications about the interiors of the building or the complex.
  • Business Continuity Plans - These plans need to be approved by the client. The construction business now starts in full swing and requires some continuity plans in place to meet any emergencies or unforeseen events.
  • Risk management - The risk team needs to be geared up to face challenges if any.
  • Energy conservation - Green projects that save energy have become a Corporate Social Responsibility, so consider this aspect too while preparing project management plans.
  • Environmental responsibility - Project managers should do their bit for the environment. It not only saves our Mother Earth but can also help the company earn some carbon credits.
  • Safety and Security measures - Safety measures should be given prime importance.
  • Quality control - Quality control methods and techniques should be implemented in a project.
  • Timely project completion - Having met all the above criteria, the project should be completed on time. This factor decides the success in project management.
